------------- Top 10 for Brown at Canadian Nationals------------

Despite Last Lap Spin Brown finishes 10th at Canadian Nationals

CHILLIWACK, BC - Motorsport can give you the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and Waterdown Karter Tyler Brown experienced it all at this year’s ASN Canada FIA Canadian Nationals.

“This is the one event that Tyler has been gearing up for all year, and he was extremely focused during the 5 day event,” said his father Darrell Brown, of the event held this year in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Brown’s 4B Racing team would contest two divisions, Canada Junior and Rotax Max Junior, for Canadian National Championships. Two days of practice and tuning was followed by qualifying on the Friday of the weekend event.

In Rotax Junior, a fully paid trip to the World Finals this winter in the Canary Islands was on the line, not to mention that the Junior candidate would also represent Canada, an honour in itself. In the final practice, the motor Tyler was using developed a power loss at midrange rpm. Mechanics and engineers for Rotax International spent the better part of Friday and again on Saturday trying to find the problem with no luck, which left Tyler with a dismal qualifying effort.

With no apparent cure for the ailing power plant, the team decided to skip the Rotax race, that was until the rains came, the great equalizer. Brown hadn't traveled across the country to watch this race, “Lets put a rain setup on this thing and I will get it to the front,” Brown said, and he did. From the drop of the green flag, Brown moved forward, up to fifth before contact sent him back to 11th. In the second heat, he went from the back to finish 6th, which combined with the first heat finish would give him a starting spot of ninth in the pre-final. Sadly, Brown’s run to the front ended with the rain and he had to retire from the final, but he did catch the eye of ASN Canada FIA’s Vice President of competition, Paul Cooke, who said, “Young Mr. Brown was plagued with a fuel and electrical problem all weekend that would have tested the patience of any person. Mr Brown handled the situation very, very professionally and used a generous portion of ‘stick-to-it-ness’ and never gave up.”

In Canada Junior, Brown qualified 7th. In the wet pre-final, Brown powered his PTK mount forward to challenge for the lead by the end of the first lap, but contact send him back to last. Undaunted by the setback, Brown climbed back to sixth by the end of the pre-final.

Sunday brought with it intermittent showers and the team set the PTK to perform in those conditions. From the drop of the green, Brown charged to the front and dominated the first 15 laps of the race. But as the track continued to dry, it would bring eventual winner Pearce Herder and two others to Brown’s rear bumper. The pursuers drafted past Brown on the front straight and started to pull away. On the final lap, Brown was caught by another driver on the front straight, who then pushed Brown a little too far into turn one. Brown took to the grass, only to come back on the track and spin on wet tires. By the time he was underway, he was relegated to 10th. Lon Herder (father of winner Pearce) said. “I was praying for the track to dry, because if it didn’t, Tyler was going to walk away from us”.
