Brown races to front! --------------------
Tyler Brown has
long day at Goodwood
GOODWOOD, ONTARIO - Tyler Brown, a 12-year-old
karter from Waterdown, Ontario had an eventful day in the Junior
Lite class at the final round of the Ontario Kartsport Championship
series held at Goodwood Kartways this past weekend.
Brown was ‘fast out of the trailer’ in his 4B racing MBA kart.
“Because of the weather, we did very little practice. We knew
it would be wet, and so we went with a good rain setup for qualifying
and it paid off. This is a very competitive class, and qualifying
third was a good start to the weekend,” Brown said after qualifying.
Because the weather was getting worse – rapidly – series officials
voted to run one round instead of two. “The weather was getting
bad, but I am getting more confidence in the rain, so that,
coupled with a good starting spot, looked like things could
go our way,” Brown added.
At the start, Brown settled into fourth and then proceeded to
have a titanic battle with Scott Walker for third. “It was difficult,
because I would pass him, then he’d pass me back. While we were
fighting, the leaders were getting away,” Brown said of the
battle. Finally Brown made the decision to try to make one more
pass for the position, but there was contact between the two
energetic drivers and both exited the track.
“It was really a racing incident, but it cost both of us,” Brown
said. Brown got going again, but he was now in 12th. The Waterdown
youngster then proceeded to put on a passing clinic, and in
just a few laps he was in third spot. “I made my way forward
by aggressive passing in turn five and drafting down the front
straight,” Brown added.
With just a few laps to go, Brown hung a wheel off the track
and had a lazy spin that sent him back down the order. “It was
just a mistake, but I learned from it – and that is the important
thing,” a phlisophical Brown said.
At the checkered, Brown came home 15th, but somewhat wiser.
“These things happen in racing. It wasn’t for a lack of trying
– but the racing gods didn’t send any lightning bolts in my
direction today.”
Brown’s next action will be with the Toronto Kart Club back
at Goodwood next weekend, where the Waterdown youngster currently
sits fifth in Junior Lite points.
