-------- The Bittersweet Learning Curve
--------
Tyler knew the 2006 race season
was going to be a challenge, but it has been a steep and emotional
learning curve. Tyler’s season started at the end of
April and to date three of the six scheduled Late Model events
have been canceled due to weather, leading to much anxiety
around the home front. This past Saturday marked another rain
out as the team was slated to make the trip to Peterborough
Speedway for their annual Late Model 100 Lap Invitational.
Tyler needs the experience and the weather has not allowed
both Tyler and the team to go through their paces.
Along with the emotional lows,
there have been many bright spots too. During Tyler’s
second start, he fought his way from last (rookie rules) on
the stating grid to finish 4th in his heat race and later
that night finished 11th in the feature after again, starting
last. This past Friday, after a four week lay off (thanks
to weather) Tyler came out strong at Delaware Speedway. In
the first heat of the night, Tyler drove to a well deserved
3rd in the heat race, while holding back a challenge from
seven time track champion, Steve Roblee. Tyler qualified to
start the feature in 5th , but Delaware institutes a roll
of the dice to invert up to six cars, and as luck would have
it, the inversion put the 14 year old rookie on the pole for
the feature. Brown took the 20 car field to the green flag
like a seasoned pro and then with guidance from his crew chief
and spotter, Tyler ran hard but also allowed the season veterans
an outside line to pass. This move would garner Tyler many
accolades and respect after the night was over. With 33 laps
down, Tyler was running strong in 8th place when a trailing
arm broke on the rear end of the car. His feel and quick reaction
going into turn one at over 120 mile per hour saved the car
from a date with the concrete wall, but unfortunately his
night was still over before he wanted it so be.
With 3 races in the books, Tyler
holds the lead in the “Rookie Title” in the ultra
competitive Late Model division and sits only seven points
out of the top ten at Canada’s premier race track.
This coming weekend Tyler will
stay close to home and Race at Flamborough Speedway in the
fist leg of the Grisdale Triple Crown 50 Lap Late Model event.
